Blacksburg Brew Do!

On Halloween weekend my wife and I made a trip to Blacksburg to visit friends. The purpose of the visit was two-fold. First, was to test out the first batch of home brew brewed by the “mad brewer” Jamie. It was an American pale ale similar to the recipe in I posted in an earlier post. And second, was to partake in the 2nd annual Blacksburg Brew-Do.
We arrived Saturday just in time to pop open a home brew and plan out the day’s events. It was a bright sunny day, perfect for spending time with good friends and tasting a wide variety of beer. There were 18 to 20 breweries set up at the event and we did our best to try all of them. I have to say, I liked most everything I tried, but, my favorite was the Brooklyn Brewery East India Pale Ale. It had a crisp, clean hoppy taste, with a piney, citrusy aroma. I’m not a “trained” taster so my descriptions are probably crude when being compared to somebody with a trained palette. Rest assured, if you like IPA’s you will love this beer.
As a side note, there was a home brew competition included in the day’s events. I didn’t find out about it early enough to get a beer submitted but will try next year. They did have 85 entries though. The winner now gets to brew their beer with the head brewer of Bull & Bones Brewhaus & Grill. A nice little perk for the winner.
All in all it was an awesome weekend. Cheers!
